Red dot died in the middle of a range session

The battery just quit and I had to use the irons for backup, now I'm paranoid about battery life. How often do you change optic batteries?

I change batteries all the time, even when they still work. Doing it every year is worth it, instead of panicking when the dot starts to die when I am shooting.
