I was thinking about when I first started shooting, and one thing my first instructor told me has always stuck with me. He always said, "Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast." At the time, I didn't really get it. I just wanted to shoot faster and hit more targets, but he kept getting me to focus on the basics.. The crazy thing is, the more I slowed down and paid attention, the better I got. Even now, when I'm practicing or trying something new, I remember that saying. It reminds me not to rush, but to let speed come from being in control and doing things the same way each time

I totally agree with that saying. Control beats speed any day. It's a simple thing but a lot of people forget it.

That’s one of those sayings that sounds simple until you actually live it for a while. Once the fundamentals are clean, speed stops being something you chase and just shows up on its own. But is is still a good reminder every time things start feeling rushed.

Heard the same advice during my first week and just nodded, ignoring it. It took me a whole year to realize he was right about everything.
