Worst camping trip disaster you've had

I set up my tent in what looked like a good spot. It rained that night and I woke up in a literal puddle. What's your biggest camping fail? The kind that seemed fine until it all went wrong.

Once forgot to check the weather and pitched right in a low spot, I woke up soaked and miserable.

  I picked out a low spot once, thinking it looked perfectly fine. Woke up completely damp and miserable. You really only make that kind of mistake once.

Our first tents were small and cheap. One for the kids and one for the wife, me and the dog. We did not get rainflies with them. As rookies we did not know any better. Wife, 3 kids and a dog all soaked. Packed up and went to a motel. Had to sneak the wet dog in. Lesson learned the hard way.
