Planning a trip to visit some family and trying to map out the best route. I want to bring a firearm along, but navigating through New York State can get complicated. Skipping NY adds a whole lot of extra drive time, so I'm considering my options. Anyone else run into this kind of situation? What did you end up doing?

A pistol going thru NY 👎. Long arms 👍. Regardless of what the laws say, they are interpreted by the local LEO and the judge. If you are t hanging it in the truck window and it's out of sight, you are generally fine.

Long guns in a locked box away from the occupant(s). Ammo in a separate locked box. Everything out of site. Don't leave the firearms unattended when in a NY rest-stop. This is a crazy lefty state.

I believe long guns can be left unattended in the vehicle as long as they are "secured.". You can look up NYS penal law definition for the word secured.

As stated above, NY is not 2A friendly. Then again, what gave rise to some of these laws are the idiots who leave loaded handguns in the glove compartment or some times on the seat. Stupid behavior makes for stupid laws.

I don't understand. Aren't you a NY resident?

New York prohibits a person from storing or leaving out of their possession a firearm in a vehicle without ensuring that it is unloaded and securely locking it in a safe storage depository out of sight from outside of the vehicle.
