New Member from L.I.

Just checking in as a new member from Long Island.
Hey Charlie! I'm a few hundred miles away in the same state. I get down there pretty often to fish the LI sound. I worked down there for 10 years, met, married and dragged my wife away from her family to the wilds of upstate.

I'm a life long resident of NY state. I love it geographically but not politically. I hunt, fish, shoot and am an avid reloader.
When I was a kid, it was great. Now, not so much, but I'm in a really conservative area. I'm working up elk loads right now. I'm switching over to lighter, high BC copper solids.

I'm no stranger to upstate NY. I shoot in Saugerties (exit 20 on NYS throughway) every week. I've hunted whitetails in the Adirondaks on many occasions. However, I hunt mostly out of state and have often hunted in Canada.

You don't shoot in Calverton?

Not in a long time. I prefer our club where you can shoot 400yds all day long with very low range usage. Often, I'll be the only shooter on the line.

Club membership is $150/yr. That is a bargain for anyone who shoots regularly. Brookhaven gets $30/day. I shoot about 5 days a month.

That's quite the drive to shoot, but the price is right. It's nice to be able to take your time and shoot at your own pace. Calverton was only 200yds, and a little farther to the backstop, but it was fun and only a couple of miles from where we lived at the time. When I was down there in the 80's and early 90's, the old lady at Calverton was quite entertaining! Rough around the edges (and voice), but a nice person. "OK to Fiya".My brother and I still repeat that line with the heavy LI accent for amusement.

I'm lucky enough to have purchase an old rural farm, and have my own range to 1000yds. I handload and shoot a lot, needless to say.

The old farm sounds great. Where is it located?
