Have you ever tried spending a whole weekend relying only on what you packed in? No extras, no backup runs, just your kit. I'm thinking about giving it a shot, are there any tips or lessons learned?

Have even done it packing in nothing but a folding knife, a canteen, and a blanket. No flashlight, no matches or lighter (warm enough we really didn't need a fire). Part of a survival camp. That was just one overnight, but an interesting experience.

Have done a couple canoe-in bowhunts in October (with tent, food and sleeping bags). Those were the best hunts, ever, even though we did not kill a deer. Well, I hit one but it got to a swamp and we searched for days but found no carcass. Very sad for that part of it. Was a nice eight-point buck. 😢

Wow, that's intense! Even a short overnight with just basics teaches a lot. Canoe-in bowhunts are incredible, though sorry about that buck, it is still an unforgettable experience, I bet

I wanted to do this on my 95 acre lease. Bring a .22 and if you don’t kill and cook it you don’t eat. Have to purify your own water as well. I figured Sept would be good time because squirrel season was open.

Have done similar. Just spend a day in the woods and make a lunch of boiled parched corn and jerky. Then warm up a cup of coffee.

Haven’t done it in many years now but , Like Stumpkiller , when I was younger a few of us would get together every year and canoe across the Stillwater reservoir up in the Adirondacks for a primitive camping / bow hunting weekend.
