Handguns under $500

I've shot some cheap pistols that were surprisingly good, like the Taurus G3C, Ruger Security-9, and S&W SD9VE. And they all seem pretty reliable and easy to care for...If you’ve got around $500 to spend, what handgun will go for?

S&W 9 Shield 3.3" . . . and you have money left over to get a good holster (or two).
