I can't wait to hear everyone's stories from this season! Did you bag a big buck, or did a squirrel steal your snacks? Share your photos and let's celebrate the adventures we've had out in the woods.

This past year? Two nice does. One regular season at about 7 yards with a .260 REM and Leupold VX5-HD 3-15X 44mm scope (talk about overkill for the range) and a second doe at 80 yards with a percussion .50 side-lock muzzleloader and patched round ball.

For the first time this past year I cubed and pressure canned EVERYTHING except the tenderloins and backstraps. Oh golly, it is delicious. I will do this with my deer from now on. Added 1 tsp of Knorr powdered Beef Bullion and 1/2 tsp canning salt per pint. Melts in your mouth.

I agree with your assessment of canned venison. I tried it for the first time many years ago at a hunting buddies house . His wife canned venison for longer shelf life than freezing it and it was absolutely delicious. I haven't done it myself yet but now that the Mrs. Has a new pressure cooker I plan on giving it a try.

try a method called " velveting" slice the meat about 3/8 thick slices( a few pounds) and put in a bowl and sprinkle 2 heaping tablespoons of backing soda, add some water and mix around with your hand, cover and put in fridge for 24 hours, then rinse the meat to wash away the backing soda...now cook as the most tender beef, and it tastes as close to beef as it can get, I fry mine in beef tallow with garlic powder, salt and pepper....you can velvet any meet to make it super tenderized...

I had tag soup. No did see a spike about 10yds while bow hunting, but I'm hunting with a recurve and didn't want to chance a shot through beech leaves. Saw a small rack buck during early muzzleloader, but too far with branches in the way my flintlock.

Missed a doe (twice) during southern zone. Shot at another doe late muzzleloader season. She reacted like I had a good hot. One Little drop of blood, no deer. Went back the next morning with help, no luck.

The property I hunt belongs to a friend who is too old to guy or drag a deer. His wife got a doe one day when I was there. I got it dressed out and in the back of their truck, so I got some of that thankfully.
