Have even done it packing in nothing but a folding knife, a canteen, and a blanket. No flashlight, no matches or lighter (warm enough we really didn't need a fire). Part of a survival camp. That was just one overnight, but an interesting experience.
Have done a couple canoe-in bowhunts in October (with tent, food and sleeping bags). Those were the best hunts, ever, even though we did not kill a deer. Well, I hit one but it got to a swamp and we searched for days but found no carcass. Very sad for that part of it. Was a nice eight-point buck.

Wow, that's intense! Even a short overnight with just basics teaches a lot.
